Boston Borough Council, East Lindsey District Council and South Holland District Council submit detailed consultation responses to Local Government Reorganisation proposals in Greater Lincolnshire

The Leaders of Boston Borough Council, East Lindsey District Council and South Holland District Council have formally responded to the Government’s statutory consultation for Local Government Reorganisation in Greater Lincolnshire.

Cllr Dale Broughton, Cllr Craig Leyland and Cllr Nick Worth thank the many organisations, stakeholders, businesses, parish and town councils and residents from across the Greater Lincolnshire area they have engaged with over recent weeks and months, as well as those who responded to the Government’s consultation.

Boston, East Lindsey and South Holland submitted a proposal for a two-authority model – Northern and Southern – for Greater Lincolnshire.

Cllr Broughton, Cllr Leyland and Cllr Worth jointly said: “Our Councils have submitted a thorough and detailed response to the statutory consultation. Supported by evidence, we demonstrate that the two-authority proposal is the only fully compliant proposal meeting all the Government’s criteria for LGR.

“It is the only proposal that considers the whole Greater Lincolnshire area, meets the population benchmark for new authorities while aligning fully with the geography of the Combined County Authority.

“The proposal demonstrates the strongest long-term financial position saving over £424m over 10 years.

“The model is shaped following significant feedback. We thank all those who provided their input and for taking the time to share your views through engagement with us or as part of the Government consultation.”

A decision from Government on the proposal or proposals to be implemented for Greater Lincolnshire is likely to be made before the summer.
